Travelling overseas is an exciting time for everyone but many travellers are heading to unfamiliar environments and we aim to provide travellers with a comprehensive consultation with current travel and health advice including any vaccinations and medical kits you may require to make your trip safe and enjoyable.
Lindsay Street Medical Centre is a licensed member of the Travel Clinics Australia – http://travelclinic.com.au Our travel medicine medical team are experienced not just in the needs of overseas travellers but are seasoned travellers themselves. Up to date travel health information is always at their fingertips including outbreaks and disease prevention. Our travel advice can be provided to private travellers, corporate travellers, travel agents and school tour groups.
Our Travel Health medical staff can provide comprehensive travel health advice, including recommendations and vaccinations for your travel needs, including Yellow Fever. We are a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre and can provide Yellow Fever vaccination and certification where appropriate. Our Travel Health medical staff can also provide medications for malaria, gastroenteritis and other travel-related health needs, including travel kits and general travel advice.
Travellers requiring vaccinations will also receive a free pocket medical guide including your international vaccination certificates. Ideally appointments should be booked six (6) weeks before your departure.
Womens Health
All our Doctors aim to provide care with all issues relating to women’s health including biological and physical including but not limited to breast care, mental health issues including stress, menopause, family planning and osteoporosis. It is our aim to improve the health of our patients and understand the impact that some of these conditions may have on your health.

Skin Health
Queensland has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. The good news – it can be prevented. Early detection aids in treatment. Annual skin checks are recommended.
Our Doctors are able to perform skin checks to assess the health of your skin and review any spots or moles. Excisions are usually booked for another day when convenient to both the patient and Doctor and to ensure our nursing staff can provide additional assistance and care to our patients.
The Group is also pleased to have the services of Dr Gawie Roux, known as Dr Harvey who offers specialised skin clinics on Monday, Tuesday Wednesday. Dr Roux with the assistance of his Registered Nurse Hannelie offer skin checks, biopsies, excisions, skin grafts and general skin care advice. Private fees apply and a copy of Dr Roux’s fees are available from our receptionists at either practice.

Chronic Disease Management
A “chronic medical condition” is one that has been, or is likely to be present for at least six months, including but not limited to Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, COPD, Cardiovascular Disease and Asthma. Chronic diseases are complex and if managed appropriately complications may be reduced and the burden on the patient and their families can improve.
The Doctor will use clinical judgement to ascertain if a patient is eligible for Medicare chronic disease management services by taking into account the medical condition of the patient in conjuction with the guidelines set out in the Medicare Benefit Schedule guidelines. A chronic disease management (CDM) plan enables our Doctors to plan and co-ordinate the health care of patients with a chronic or terminal medical conditions. Some patients also require a multi-disciplinary, team based care plan from their Doctor and two other health care providers which may also include our practice nurses.
Patients meeting this criteria are eligible for Medicare rebates to access subsidised visits in a calendar year from some allied health professionals on referral from their GP Ask your Doctor or one of our Practice Nurses about how better to manage your chronic conditions.

Drivers Licence Medicals
Private and Commercial
If you require a Medical Certificate of Fitness to Drive for a private vehicle, because of age or a medical condition and you regularly attend one of our practices, please advise our reception staff that you require a Drivers Licence when making a booking, your normal billing will apply for this consultation. If you require a Commercial Vehicle Drivers Assessment you will need to advise reception staff if this requires a special longer appointment.
Please be aware that Commercial Assessments do not attract Medicare rebates and a private fee applies.
Ear Syringing
Highfields & District Medical Centre offers professional ear syringing and ear wax removal services to help relieve discomfort, blocked ears, reduced hearing, ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and ear pressure caused by excessive ear wax build-up. Our experienced clinical team provides safe and effective ear irrigation following an assessment of your ear health to determine the most appropriate treatment. If you are experiencing symptoms of impacted ear wax, ear blockage or hearing difficulties, our team can assist with diagnosis and treatment to help restore comfort and hearing. Appointments are available for both existing and new patients at our Highfields medical clinic.
Pathology
For added convenience, Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology is located next door to Highfields & District Medical Centre, making it easy for patients to access pathology and blood collection services close to their GP appointment. Patients requiring blood tests, specimen collection or other pathology services can visit Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology next door, providing convenient access to both medical and pathology services in Highfields in one location.
ECG's
Highfields & District Medical Centre provides ECG (electrocardiogram) testing in Highfields to help assess the electrical activity, rate and rhythm. Your doctor may recommend an ECG to investigate symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness or shortness of breath, or to assess and monitor certain heart conditions. ECGs can be conveniently performed at our Highfields medical centre, and your doctor will review the results as part of your ongoing care.
Please be aware that Commercial Assessments do not attract Medicare rebates and a private fee applies.
Holter Monitoring
Highfields & District Medical Centre provides Holter monitoring in Highfields to help assess your heart rhythm over an extended period, usually 24 hours or longer. A Holter monitor is a small, portable device that continuously records your heart's electrical activity while you go about your normal daily activities. Your doctor may recommend Holter monitor testing to investigate symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, fainting or an irregular heartbeat that a standard ECG might not detect. Our clinical team can fit the monitor at the practice and provide instructions for use, the results will be reviewed as part of your ongoing medical care.
Iron Infusions
Highfields & District Medical Centre provides iron infusions in Highfields for patients assessed by a doctor as requiring intravenous iron treatment. Iron infusions may be recommended for iron deficiency or iron deficiency anaemia when oral iron supplements are unsuitable, ineffective or not well tolerated. Our experienced clinical team administers iron infusions in a monitored medical setting; your doctor determines whether this treatment is appropriate for you. If you are experiencing symptoms associated with low iron levels, such as fatigue, weakness or reduced energy, book an appointment with one of our doctors for assessment and advice.
WorkCover Medical
Highfields & District Medical Centre provides WorkCover consultations in Highfields for patients who have experienced a work-related injury or illness. Our doctors can assess your condition, provide appropriate treatment and, where clinically appropriate, complete a Work Capacity Certificate for workers’ compensation. This may include documenting your injury, treatment requirements, capacity to work and any restrictions or suitable duties that may assist with a safe return to work. We can also provide ongoing medical care and review throughout your recovery and WorkCover Queensland claim where required.
Blood Pressure Checks by the Nurses
Highfields & District Medical Centre offers convenient blood pressure checks in Highfields with our nursing team. Regular blood pressure monitoring is important for maintaining your overall health and may help identify changes in your blood pressure over time. Our nurses can accurately measure and record your blood pressure, referring you to a doctor for further assessment where appropriate. Whether you require a routine blood pressure check, ongoing monitoring or have been asked by your doctor to record your blood pressure regularly, our nursing team is here to assist.
Basic Audiometry
Highfields & District Medical Centre offers basic audiometry and hearing tests in Highfields to help assess your hearing and identify possible hearing loss. Basic audiometry measures your ability to hear sounds at different frequencies and volumes and may be performed as part of a general health assessment, pre-employment medical or when hearing changes are a concern. Our clinical team can perform basic hearing assessments at the practice, with referral for further medical or specialist assessment where appropriate.
Minor Surgeries
Highfields & District Medical Centre provides a range of minor surgical procedures in Highfields that can be conveniently performed within a general practice setting. Depending on your individual needs and following assessment by your doctor, procedures may include skin biopsies, removal of minor skin lesions, cysts and skin tags, wound suturing (stitches), removal of sutures, wound care and dressings, incision and drainage of minor abscesses, ingrown toenail treatment and cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen) for suitable skin lesions.
Our doctors and nursing team are committed to providing safe, high-quality care before, during and after your procedure, including follow-up and wound management where required.
Please note that some minor procedures may attract an out-of-pocket fee to assist with the cost of materials, equipment and consumables used during your treatment. These may include local anaesthetic, liquid nitrogen, wound dressings, sutures, needles, sterilisation of surgical instruments and other required medical consumables. Our team can provide further information regarding applicable fees when your procedure is arranged.
Wound Care &
Bandage Changing
Highfields & District Medical Centre provides wound care and dressing changes in Highfields for a range of acute and ongoing wounds. Our experienced nursing team can assist with wound assessment, cleaning and dressing, bandage changes, post-surgical wound care, suture and staple removal, minor cuts and abrasions, skin tears and ongoing wound management. Where required, one of our doctors can assess the wound and recommend further treatment to support appropriate healing and reduce the risk of complications.
Please note that out-of-pocket fees may apply for wound care and dressing services to cover the cost of dressings, bandages and other medical consumables used during your treatment. Our team can advise you of any applicable fees.
Geriatric Care
Highfields & District Medical Centre provides geriatric and older person health care in Highfields, supporting the health and wellbeing of older patients through every stage of ageing. Our doctors can assist with chronic disease management, medication reviews, falls prevention, mobility concerns, memory and cognitive changes, preventative health, vaccinations and general health assessments. We can also help coordinate care with specialists, allied health professionals, community services and family members or carers where appropriate.
